Alta Via, a new Italian restaurant concept by the big Burrito group brought to Fox Chapel in 2019, is coming to McCandless, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times. The group opened the first Alta Via earlier this year in the Fox Chapel plaza and business has been booming.
The group, which operates Casbah, Kaya, Eleven, Soba, Umi and multiple Mad Mex restaurants will bring its second Alta Via to McCandless Township on Corporate Drive, in the old TGI Friday’s location.
The McCandless location will be similar to the Fox Chapel restaurant which features “modern Italian fare.” According to Corporate Chef Bill Fuller, “Alta Via fulfills our desire to further explore Italian cooking, embracing a cuisine that celebrates the way we like to live and like to eat: fresh, clean, active.”
The menu features many fresh salads and upscale appetizers such as beef carpaccio, burrata, and tuna tartare. Salads and appetizers include brussel sprouts with black currants, beans and greens, and mushrooms with smoked mozzarella and pine nuts.
Freshly made pastas are one of the star attractions at Alta Via, with chefs preparing pasta from scratch on a daily basis. The menu features gemelli with jumbo lump crab meat, radiatore with braised lamb and pappardelle with beef short ribs.
Entrées include fresh seafoods such as trout, swordfish and salmon as well as chops, chicken and steaks. End your meal with a host of Italian favorites for desert.
According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, the restaurant will feature seating for 140 with a large bar and will open in January 2021.
