New Italian café Sprezzatura opens its doors in Millvale

A new café is in the process of opening its doors to the North Hills. The location is in the former Moose Lodge in Millvale that was purchased in 2017 as a collaborative effort by a company called New Sun Rising. The 10,000 sq. ft. space operates as a co-op that also houses the 412 Food Rescue program.

Jen Saffron, owner

Sprezzatura, which is an Italian term, means when something is such a form of art, it appears to be without effort (well-played) is owned and operated by Jen Saffron, a Washington DC native who moved to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie-Mellon University. Some 30-odd years later, she started a catering company of the same name in Pittsburgh’s Northside with space at the Priory. She offers classic Italian comfort food to her many clients.

Saffron seems to be filled with enthusiasm and excitement about her craft, and based on the posts on the Sprezzatura website and Facebook page, is very committed to sustainable resources, particularly food. She often participates in events in and around the ‘Burgh, particularly in Millvale, and especially those that educate the public about sustainable resources.

Saffron hosted a soft opening on November 26th, and over the past weekend, offered a $15 special of spaghetti & meatballs or vegetable lasagna with a side salad, bread, a choice of biscotti and a bottle of “pop” (how very Pittsburgh!) with proceeds benefiting the Northern Area Boys & Girls club.

The North Hills community embraces this new business and welcomes you to the neighborhood!
